Nurse Practitioner - Psychiatry, Part time
About the Position
Positive Directions – the Center for Prevention and Counseling is seeking a compassionate nurse practitioner to join our multi-disciplinary team of clinicians who will provide outpatient counseling and medication management. Enjoy a rewarding position working with an array of clients (clients typically include those with mental illness and/or substance abuse) in a supportive outpatient environment. You will be responsible for psychoeducation of client and family; counseling services; prescribing of medication and medication management. Maintaining appointments and being responsive to colleagues and clients outside of work hours is a must.
Job Functions
Obtains and reviews client’s medical history relevant to client care
Conducts assessments and makes diagnosis
Orders and reviews laboratory tests as deemed necessary
Assumes responsibility for prescribing FDA approved prescription medications according to state and federal guidelines
Maintains all required documentation for client care and medication management
Conducts client consultations
Provides training to clinical and non-clinical staff as needed
Documents client progress notes in the EMR
Performs other clinical duties as required
Conducts follow-up calls to clients to discuss the client’s progress and address any concerns.
Attendance at weekly clinical consultation. Collaborates with fellow clinicians.
Hours will consist of mostly week day appointments, with some evenings required. No on call requirements.
Requirements
Certified as APRN by the Nursing Certification Board or American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Must hold a valid State Controlled Substance Registration, a Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Certification, a valid State RN and APRN license.

Must have flexibility to work some evenings, based on your clients’ schedules
Strong interpersonal skills and ability work well with all colleagues and clients
Experience with EMRs
Must be willing to be on a variety of insurance panels

About the Agency
Positive Directions is a community-based, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit located in Westport, Connecticut and is the primary provider of alcohol and substance misuse prevention and individual counseling services.
The Agency principally serves the towns of Fairfield, Norwalk, Weston, Westport and Wilton and its mission is to support individuals, families, and communities by providing (1) prevention programs that build resiliency and life skills in adolescents, adults and families and (2) treatment for mental health and addictive behaviors.
Positive Directions was established in 1971 in Westport, CT as a volunteer effort by recovering alcoholics to support recovery and bring awareness and prevention into school and community programs. Since then, treatment and prevention programs have evolved to become more disciplined and outcome focused, and Positive Directions today emphasizes evidence-supported clinical treatment services and community focused prevention programs. The Agency’s mission is to support individuals, families, and communities by providing treatment for mental health and addictive behaviors and prevention programs that build resiliency and life skills in adolescents, adults and families. We are a 501(c)(3), state-licensed provider of behavioral health treatment and prevention programs and have received state prevention and awareness funding continuously for close to 25 years, in recognition of our expertise as a provider of evidence-supported, data-driven, locally focused prevention programs to the communities we serve.
