Youth Advocate - Part Time

About the Position

Positive Directions is seeking a part time Youth/Young Adult Advocate to serve within the Fairfield Cares Community Coalition and the Partnership Community Coalition serving Norwalk to reduce substance misuse among young people in the community. This position is for up to 10 hours per week.


Essential Duties

  • Work to plan and implement coalition events and activities

  •  Attend monthly coalition meetings to share young adult perspective on substance abuse and mental health promotion.

  • Collaborate with others to identify new ways to reach, engage, and increase youth participation in coalition activities (health fairs, awareness events, community trainings, social media and marketing campaigns, social media, surveys and data collection)

  •  Attend Governor’s Prevention Partnership Youth Advisory Board meetings (quarterly)

  • Develop collaborative partnerships with school and community youth groups

  •  Assist in expanding the Youth Committee

  •  Act as a positive role model for peers

  • Assist in social media reach and development and design of a Quarterly Newsletter.

  • Assist in the implementation of student and adult surveys

  • Assist with social media and other communication to the public
