Maria Chappa (she/her)

TurningPointCT Peer Leader

Maria joined TurningPointCT as the peer leader in October 2022.

Maria is passionate about advocating for young teens and young adults who experience mental illness and all that comes with it. As someone who struggles with mental health on a daily basis, she strives to break the stigma surrounding it.

She has gained experience by working with those in a mental health crisis while working as an EMT. Through those patients, she has learned different tactics to provide comfort to individuals requiring care during a mental health crisis. Maria currently coaches field hockey at the high school level. She aims to help her players in any way possible and to let them know it’s okay not to be okay.

Maria graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a degree in biology and Italian. In her free time she can be found reading, painting, taking her dog on walks, and spending time with her family.
