Positive Directions Receives Fairfield County Community Foundation Grant

February 18, 2011

Positive Directions has been awarded a competitive grant of $20,000 by the Fairfield County Community Foundation to support the agency’s Adolescent Treatment program.  Since 2004, the Adolescent Treatment program at Positive Directions has provided comprehensive treatment and counseling by licensed and professional clinicians that addresses the behavioral health needs of children and adolescents in Fairfield County.

Marty Hauhuth, executive director of Positive Directions, in announcing the grant, said “The generous support of the Fairfield County Community Foundation allows us to continue providing access to comprehensive treatment services to families who may otherwise face their personal challenges without any other resource or community support.  We are very grateful for the Foundation’s generosity and for their continuing confidence in our programs and services.”

Speaking on behalf of the Foundation, Karen R. Brown, Vice President of Programs, said the award was based on the continuing need for support for underserved families in Fairfield County who have adolescents requiring treatment.  “Today’s financial challenges make it more important than ever to support the critical programs which serve the young people in our community,” said Brown.

The Adolescent Treatment program is a comprehensive service addressing the full range of psychological and neurological behavioral health issues, including substance abuse and other addictive behaviors, affecting children and adolescents in Fairfield County communities.  The program includes; diagnosis and assessment, individual and family therapy; aftercare following inpatient treatment; and workshops to develop parenting and family management skills to support adolescent behavior.

Positive Directions is a not-for-profit, state-licensed mental health and substance abuse treatment center and has been supporting the communities of Fairfield County since 1971 by providing prevention programs and treatment services for mental health and addictive behaviors.

The Fairfield County Community Foundation promotes the growth of community and regional philanthropy to improve the quality of life throughout Fairfield County. Individuals, families, corporations and organizations can establish charitable funds and contribute to existing funds. The Foundation also provides philanthropic advisory services, and develops and leads initiatives to tackle critical community issues. It is in compliance with the Council on Foundations’ national standards for community foundations.
