Taming the College Process (Returning Fall 2010)
Event Description:
THE NUMBER 1 RULE: Leave College Names, Test Scores and College Road Trip Planners at the door!
The College Process often becomes a “Rite of Passage” about gaining admission to the “Right” school! Recent discussions with High School Guidance Counselors, Principals and even College Admissions Officers observe an increase in the number of students who are prepared academically, but not emotionally for their college experience. Statistics indicate that the overall percentage of college freshman who DO NOT return to the same college for their sophomore year has increased over the past 10 years.
Despite our best intentions, this process can create stress for the entire family and affect our children’s self-esteem. This workshop offers a range of techniques to identify and manage the anxiety evoked by this process, both our children’s and our own, and give a unique perspective of the college process as a stepping stone to support and teach children important tools for becoming a “successful” adult. We CAN help our children develop the resilience, independence, confidence and self-acceptance necessary to make a successful transition to college and beyond!
This class is targeted at PARENTS of 9th through 11th graders, but Parents of Seniors are more than welcome to enroll. Registration is limited.
