    How EAP Works for the Employee

    What Problems Does EAP Help Solve?

    EAP helps the employee cope with personal problems that affect job performance. Problems may include marital and family conflicts, personal tension, bereavement, substance abuse, legal or financial problems.

    Will the Employer or Co-Workers Know?

    • EAP is completely confidential. Each individual's privacy is protected. No information is given to the employer or placed in the employee's personnel file.
    • Counseling takes place away from the work site.
    • Seeking EAP assistance does not hurt the employee's present job or future advancement.

    What Happens When You Go to EAP?

    At no cost to the employee, a trained counselor will meet with the employee or immediate family members to assess the situation and help the employee work toward a solution. If the problem is beyond the scope of the EAP counselor's expertise, the counselor will call upon a wide network of skilled professionals whose services may be covered by the employer's group insurance plan.

    How Do Employees Get to EAP?

    Employees often seek EAP help themselves. Employees and their immediate families are free to call EAP for a private appointment without the knowledge of the employer.

    Management or supervisory personnel sometimes refer an employee, for example, when performance declines.
