Positive Directions, The Center for Prevention & Recovery, Inc., a non-profit agency, founded in 1973 as the Alcoholism and Drug Dependency Council, a volunteer effort by recovering alcoholics to bring awareness and prevention into school and community programs.

Since then, the field of prevention has evolved through research to become more disciplined and professional. Positive Directions' prevention work has followed this path and today emphasizes research-supported proven programs that build resiliency and life skills in youth, and parenting and family management skills in adults. Positive Directions has become known in the prevention field as an organization ready to innovate - to design and test new programmatic concepts and to work cooperatively with community and governmental leaders, town and school departments, and other non-profit agencies in implementation.

Recovery is another essential aspect of Positive Directions. As a state-licensed, out-patient substance abuse treatment center, we offer a wide range of adolescent and adult counseling, Intervention, assessment and referral services.

The programs of Positive Directions support these primary goals:

The professional staff and counselors at Positive Directions are supported by a community based Board of Directors composed of business and community leaders committed to the recovery and prevention programs for individuals and families throughout Fairfield County.

The combination of focus on prevention and a staff of highly professional counselors available for advice, Intervention, and treatment makes Positive Directions an extraordinary resource for the people of Fairfield County.

Positive Directions continues to be one of the very few providers that serve people regardless of their ability to pay. This policy makes prevention and recovery possible. Information and treatment must be available when the individual is motivated to seek help, not when a source of payment has been located. With this approach individuals have the best chance for a sustained recovery.

Each year, more than 10,000 individuals are helped with the information, recovery, Intervention and prevention programs offered by Positive Directions.

If you or a loved one are experiencing problems or are at risk , call us today. We can help.
